Pigskin Preview: South Bend's St. Joseph High School

The South Bend St. Joe football team is under new management.

Bryon Whitten takes over the Tribe, replacing Ben Downey after six successful seasons, that included two trips to the state finals.

"It's going to look a little different but it's still the same old St Joe football, and the tradition rich football history that we have here," Whitten says.

St. Joe played in the 4A semi-state game last year and Whitten hopes to build on that as he takes over the program.

"Having such a successful playoff run from last year, hopefully we'll able to learn from that and the developments we need to make during the tournament run and be able to take it into our practices during the season," Whitten says.

"The goal is making it to state," echoes senior Justin Groves. "Going to state. We're going to have a good season."

St. Joe opens up Friday night at perennial 5A power Concord.
