SOUTH BEND — In three days the Friday night lights will be flipped on all across Indiana, when a new high school football season kicks off!
On the west side of South Bend there are expectations.
Entering his fifth year at South Bend Washington, Jay Johnson is the longest tenured head coach in the city!
He's also coming off his best season.
The Panthers won the NIC South title last season and advanced to the 4A sectional championship game.
Some key players are gone from that run but the returning Panthers are motivated by that loss in the sectional final and hungry for more!
"It drives me and us as a team to be better, and not end on those terms that we ended on last year. Making it further,” said Senior QB, Tyrese Belcher.
"I'm excited about progress. `Cuz I know we're only going to get better because everybody's together and we're all working together,” said Senior WR, D’Angelo Hairston.
"I'm hoping that that seasons laid the foundation for this season. We've had some great kids throughout my tenure as head coach. We've been laying the foundation and I feel like now we're building to be a program that can sustain successful football,” said Coach Jay Johnson.
